Four years of Best of Malaysia, four straight wins for Melaka as the Best Day Trip.
Enough said. So what makes Melaka so special?
There's certainly a huge history associated with Melaka; due to its location it was the regional centre of trade for many years, and is a natural attraction for history and culture enthusiasts. The remains of the A'Famosa fort, built by the Portuguese but destroyed by the British, is certainly one of the most famous attractions, as is the replica of the Frol de la mar at the maritime museum. Definitely best enjoyed while riding in the comfort of a trishaw. Melaka has such a wonderful blend of culture, and that shows especially in the food, as Melaka is well visited for its Nyonya-Baba or Peranakan cuisine (a mixture of Chinese, Portuguese, Dutch, Indian, British, and Malay cooking). A UNESCO World Heritage Site, former trade centre, historical paradise, and food heaven-Melaka, deserved winner of this award.
