MALACCA: Felda Travel Sdn Bhd (Felda Travel), a subsidiary of Felda Global Ventures Holdings Bhd (FGV), has invested RM24 million to renovate and refurbish their newly-acquired Hotel Seri Costa, located in Plaza Mahkota in the heart of the city.

FGV president and chief executive officer Datuk Sabri Ahmad said Seri Costa is a great acquisition as it is located in one of Malaysia's top tourist destinations.

About 13 million tourists are expected to visit Malacca this year.

"Although tourism is not the core business of Felda, our involvement in hospitality and tourism services provides important visibility to the Felda brand.

"It is also our contribution towards the development and growth of the local tourism sector," he said at the official opening of Seri Costa under Felda Travel yesterday.

Also present were Felda chairman Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad and state Tourism director Datuk Lim Chow Beng.

Felda Travel specialises in travel and resort services. Since Felda Travel took over full ownership and management of the hotel on September 1, Seri Costa has joined the ranks of six other hotels and resorts under the company, known as "residences".

The three-star hotel is the first existing hotel acquired by Felda Travel and is also their first in Malacca. The hotel, which has been in operation for 12 years, has a total of 147 rooms, a coffee house and three seminar rooms.

Sabri said the acquisition of Seri Costa will support the group's overall hospitality business operations, in line with Felda Travel's vision to move forward by owning and operating its own hotels instead of remaining a management agent.

"With the inclusion of Seri Costa, Felda Travel now has 726 rooms under its management across the country.

"We have about 500,000 guests staying at our residences annually and the number is on the rise. We intend to continue expanding the company's range of facilities and services," he said.
