Donations of School Uniforms, Shoes and School Bags to 50 needy Malacca primary School Students By Lions Club of Malacca.

Melaka:  The Lions Club of Malacca recently embarked on a Corporate Social Responsibility endeavour that aimed to assist 50 needy primary school students in and around Melaka.

Chaired by Lion Dr. Jimmie Tan Kok Peng, who acknowledged the presence today of their Lions 1st District Governor, Lion Lau Teng Chye and of Past President Datuk Dr.K.Nagaratnam in the event, it was explained to the crowd that had gathered to witness and receive these collaborative charity efforts by the Lions Club members that the club members viewed Education as the cornerstone and primary success step of every student regardless of color and creed.

He said ’Amongst the many social activities embarked upon by this Non Governmental Organisation every year are several activities and action committees, set up to help alleviate the sufferings of the marginalized and the disadvantaged in our society.

This Club for many decades had  been known to prioritize their efforts towards aspects of assistance to society governing  Environmental, Health & Social activities with Crime Awareness (assisted by the Royal Malaysian Police Dept); and Education being their mainstay programmes’.

According to the current President of Lions Club of Melaka, Lion Mr. Liow Yit Lee, one of the many aims of the club is to help reduce poverty in society and they do this through alleviating the sufferings of the poor and marginalized with these CSR programmes by instilling into the deserving poor children the value of education especially the need to study and be successful in their respective individual lives for their own betterment and the betterment of society as a whole.

The Lions Club members believe wholeheartedly that if every child has access to quality education it would ensure not just the society to progress but also the nation.

He emphasized that the ruling Government is putting great effort in Education Excellence to achieve a developed nation status by 2020.

The government is also giving priority  to the citizen by providing special funds for school support programmes for the needy and poor students such as the Kumpulan Wang Amanah Pelajar Miskin (KWAPM).

This programme hopes to eliminate school drop-out cases resulting from poverty and to provide equal opportunity in education to all students.

In this respect, Lions Club Malacca hopes to emulate the noble efforts of the government by assisting where possible a lending hand to the marginalized and poor within our society.

He added ‘The Lions Club of Malacca gives priority to Education by setting up the Lions Club of Malacca Educational Foundation which aims to help economically disadvantaged pupils. Since its inception in 2003, the Club, through the sponsorship of Lion Mr. Steven Lee Kee Hock has donated more than
RM 400,000.00 worth of library books to about 10 primary schools, helped to establish libraries in 3 primary school; and 2 libraries in the PDRM Housing Quarters.  They also have a history of donating RM 10,000.00 yearly to select deserving poor students- 50  students each year; with each receiving cash of RM 200.00.’

These donations come from the member’s wallets personally and this year they are providing the 51 sets of school bags, shoes and uniform to various SJK, SJKC and SJKT’s in kind to ensure these presentations continue to help the community members and pupils as a whole.
